it has to be one of my favorite books so far dealing with the intersection of the secular, liturgic and our collective thoughts on the term devil. I'm reserving final judgement until I actually finish the book, but it shouldn't take more than a couple days to get through it.
So far this year I've read:
- Quicksilver by: Neal Stephenson
- By Dan Brown (author of The Da Vinici Code)
- Pattern Reconition by:William Gibson
- Teeth of the Tiger by: Tom Clancy
There are a few others on my list yet, with more coming out this spring so I'm sure I'll be busy.
I'm finding lately that my patience for high fantasy is waning, and I'm looking for more meat in my literature. Cyberpunk and techno-ficition (ala Gibson and Stephenson) are holding my attention more, and although Clancy can be wearisome (no matter how much I agree or disagree with his political views), his latest book is quick, succinct, and a great opener in a new era for his extremely vast story arc. It was nice to see that he can still say in a couple hundred pages what he has recently been pounding you over the head with in over 1000.
George R. R. Martin is supposed to be releasing his latest in his "A Song of Ice and Fire" series, A Feast for Crows, but it's been pushed back yet again to August, and I'm not sure about wanting to wait nearly two years for another dense tome of fantasy.
The first three books in the series were good, but extremely dense, and the character relationships, at times, were tiresome (not as tiresome of, say, Robert Jordan, however), and I feel that I would have to re-read the first books to get back into the story. A huge undertaking, so I'd better start soon.
