Oh there's no place like Home for the Holidays

Chuckie and the Christmas tree

I love the holidays. Some people get grouchy or depressed or stressed out; I love the holidays. Sure travel is hard and it's a lot of work to clean the house for company. Sure everybody's families are crazy. I love the joy of putting up the tree and baking cookies. I love seeing my crazy family all together.

This Thursday, we'll have lunch at Mom and Dad's to celebrate Thanksgiving day. I plan to spend the evening watching Home for the Holidays with Chuck (and Lisa if she wants) and pull out my Christmas decorations. We'll give the Michigan family a call and wish Gillian a Happy Birthday. Maybe we could even do some hot cider or a bottle of wine.

Friday I intend to keep low key. I am NOT a Black Friday shopper. No matter how good the sale is, it is not worth pushing and pulling to get it. That is not my idea of the holiday spirit. I may do some baking and getting things organinzed to go to Lisa's, but most of the day I'll be relaxing with the fam and sorting more holiday decorations.

Saturday is our family Thanksgiving. Lisa is hosting, as it has been tradition to have Thanksgiving in her house (formerly my Grandparents' house). I'm bringing sweet potatoes, some wine and maybe a pumpkin pie (maybe). I spoke to Lisa last night and she was busy ironing her linens for the big day.

After that, only about four more weeks until Christmas. We are planning another trip out to Michigan to visit our family for the holidays. We should have travel plans made by the end of this week.

Halloween

My Butterfly

This picture is from last Saturday when we dressed up to trick-or-treat at the supermarket. We did not manage to get the costume on last night for Halloween. Rachel was too tired and was confused by my putting a costume on her when she normally would be taking clothes off for a bath. We switched gears and put on her Halloween jammies instead. She enjoyed looking at the trick-or-treaters as they came to the door and was really excited that Grandma A came over to visit. Eventually she'd had enough of the excitement and went to bed at 6:15 without too much fuss.

Grandma and I had dinner that she brought from Grizzlies. Yummy. I was starving having not eaten much all day. (I woke up a very sick Mommy - possibly due to the pumpkin seeds I'd eaten the night before.) We chatted and handed out candy to the kids as I baked Rachel's birthday/candy corn cookies. Grandma headed for home and I cleaned up my mess in the kitchen. Rachel woke up once for some milk and conversation around 10:00 and then we both headed to bed for the night. Despite having her last "first" molar pushing through, she slept pretty well last night. Happy Halloween, baby.
